Concert of the Wernyhora band at the Nowycia Foundation — invitation
We invite you to the Nowycia Foundation for a concert of the Wernyhora band:
September 19, 2025
(Friday)
7:00 PM
Wernyhora is a Polish-Ukrainian trio playing folk music with roots in the Carpathian borderland of Poland and Ukraine. Since 2020, the band has won numerous awards at folk and world music festivals, including the Grand Prize at Mikołajki Folkowe (2020), First Prize at the “New Tradition” Festival (2021), and two second prizes in the Folk Phonogram of the Year competition (2022 and 2023).
In their explorations, Wernyhora’s musicians draw on the traditional songs of the Eastern Carpathians, paying particular attention to the musical traditions of the Boyko community. Occasionally, they delve into other parts of the Polish-Ukrainian borderland, so the band’s repertoire includes melodies from Roztocze, Podolia, and other regions. Although the group draws on original melodies and lyrics from folk songs, they creatively expand upon them through the use of unique historical instruments, combining them with the vocalist’s charismatic voice.
