On September 19, 2026, ceremonies were held in Jaworzno to commemorate the victims of the Central Labour Camp — a site that remains forever one of the most painful symbols of Poland’s post-war history.
Among those imprisoned in Jaworzno in 1947 were Ukrainians — including Lemkos — displaced during Operation Vistula, as well as members of the Ukrainian intelligentsia and clergy.
This year’s observances began with Holy Mass and a panachyda (memorial service) for the victims. Praying together at the site associated with their suffering was a profound moment of reflection and remembrance. Afterward, participants laid flowers at the monument commemorating the camp’s prisoners and victims. The program also featured artistic performances by children and youth, as well as speeches by organizers, government officials, and invited guests.
